Collier County, consisting of Naples, Everglades City, Immokalee, Marco Island and Golden Gate, is the seventh fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition to the population growth, Collier County is one of the most desirable business locations in the country.
Year round warmth, beautiful sunshine and a proactive business community make Collier County the ideal corporate location for business growth and future success. The county’s 2006 population estimate is 314,649, per the United States Census Bureau. The most conservative estimates of the 2010 population place Collier County's population at approximately 380,000, with the year-round resident population exceeding 450,000 around 2020. The substantial growth has certainly created increased demand for many types of goods and services.
Collier County's growth also acts to diversify the racial and ethnic composition of the population, allowing its residents the opportunity to enjoy a myriad of cultural experiences.
Collier County has long been an attractive place to retire and therefore, the County's population is slightly older than the country on average. Collier County’s median age is 43.2 years, while the United States median age is only 36.6 years. Even though Collier County is an attractive retirement destination, nearly 76% of its total population is actually younger than 65.
Collier County continues to be an area that experiences a great deal of seasonal population increases. During the months between November and April, Collier County's population increases by an estimated one-third due to seasonal residents and short-term agricultural workers in the Immokalee area. The population increase in the "seasonal months" creates a high degree of seasonality within certain sectors of Collier County's economy, most notably in the retail, service, and hospitality sectors.
